Life after Cesc.

Arsene is hoping for a quick resolution.

OK, so he hasn’t officially left yet, but the sooner we all face facts the better. We’ve survived the departure of talismanic captains in the past,  and there’s no reason why we can’t do the same again. All signs seem to point towards a tedious drawn out transfer saga a la Arshavin 2009, but with Wenger keen to complete his transfer activity before the World Cup begins, don’t be surprised to see Cesc in a Barcelona shirt by the end of next week. Transfer prices often become inflated post World Cup, and Arsene is keen to avoid paying over the odds by having his squad in place before South Africa and Mexico do battle on July the 11th.

In terms of transfer fee, the press are predicting anything between Yaya Tour plus £25 million, and the rather ambitious £80 million. Having paid £35 million to a cash strapped Valencia in exchange for David Villa yesterday, the Catalan giants may be willing to stretch to the £45 million mark for Fabregas. Where are Man City when you need to spark up a bidding war?

Another man linked with a move away from the Emirates this week is Sol Campbell. The 35 year old is said to be in the thoughts of Celtic’s caretaker manager Neil Lennon, but he has already announced his intentions to remain a Gooner for at least two more seasons.
