We’ll have it if you don’t want it.

Even at the height of our powers in 2005 every trophy, nay every victory, felt as satisfying as the last. Maybe the subsequent five barren years have contorted matters somewhat, but I seem to remember celebrating the Vieira’s winning penalty against United with as much (if not more) vigour than Sylvain Wiltord’s double clinching goal three seasons earlier.

This made watching Chelsea fans forced smiles as their side ascended the Wembley steps for the third time in four seasons all the more galling. Admittedly they have been spoiled with success since Abramovich’s arrival, but this was more than just another FA Cup. The club had just made history by securing its first ever league and cup double, and yet with chorus after chorus of ‘Play up Pompey’ ringing around Wembley Stadium, you would be forgiven for thinking Portsmouth had spoiled the party.

Cheer up Chelsea.
